Monday, November 10, at 3 p.m. Come discover a conference on the 34th Infantry Regiment from 1625 to 1913, a regiment in the history of France. Created in 1625 under Louis XIII, the regiment was engaged in the wars led by the kings of France. During the French Revolution, having become the 34th, it fought in battle, distinguishing itself among other places at Fleurus. Under the First Empire, it fought in the Napoleonic battles in Northern Europe, at Austerlitz, Jena, in Spain… The Restoration sent it back to fight in Spain and conquer Algeria. Under the Second Empire, it was at the victory of Solferino and the defeat of Sedan. The Third Republic, reestablishing conscription, saw it conquer Tunisia and Madagascar, and added two reserve regiments, the 234th Infantry Regiment and the 141st Infantry Regiment, to prepare for "revenge" and retake Alsace and Moselle from Germany. 400 years after the birth of what was the Landes Regiment, the conference brings to life three centuries during which this regiment made its contribution to the military history of France. The conference will be followed by a presentation of the book History of the 34th Infantry Regiment, Volume I, 1625-1913. By Jean-Pierre Brèthes, Doctor of Letters and Reserve Colonel of the Infantry.
