POSTCARD 1: THE LONG ROAD A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GYPSIES IN SPAIN From their arrival in Spain to the present day, the Gypsy people have experienced a very long road marked by hardships, injustices, and threats of extermination. However, this wandering ethnic group, whose unique character is coupled with extraordinary adaptability, had accumulated know-how along the way, and while on the one hand they aroused rejection, they also knew how to make themselves useful and even indispensable, with their horse traders, blacksmiths, bakers, musicians, dancers, and fortune tellers. The Long Road is the story of their journey from the crossing of the Pyrenees in 1425, after which they spread across various territories of the Peninsula, until they reached Andalusia, which would become their welcoming and preferred land, where they would contribute in an invaluable way to human and cultural enrichment.
