Conference by Jean-Pierre Brèthes On November 11, 1922, Mont-de-Marsan inaugurated its War Memorial, the city's tribute to the woman and the 273 men whose names were inscribed in the bronze. As early as November 24, 1918, a municipal deliberation decided on the creation of the memorial work, financed by a popular subscription which, in six months, raised the funds. When the war ended, on June 28, 1919, another subscription made it possible to erect a magnificent temporary monument during the return of the three Landes regiments (34th and 234th RI, 141st RIT) on July 29, 1919. Finally, the inauguration took place place on November 11, 1922. From the beginning, the memorial function of the Monument was complemented by its patriotic dimension and, especially after 1944, it became a republican symbol, in front of which the brand new prefect of Landes comes to lay a wreath during his taking office. The dead of all the wars of the 20th century joined on the bronze those of the First and, on the occasion of the 2018 renovation, 23 names of Poilus were added: 395 names remind us of the inestimable price of these precious goods whose we enjoy every day without hindrance, Freedom and Peace. Free and free entry within the limit of available places, without reservation.
