Le Basket Landais

Conference on "Basket Landais: What a story!" Tuesday, November 25, at 6 p.m. Free admission subject to availability, no reservation required. With 12,000 members, basketball is one of the most popular sports in the Landes, even the most popular, overtaking football and rugby in some years. Since its arrival in the Landes after the First World War, this sport has become emblematic of the local sporting culture, as evidenced by the fervor surrounding the "Landes World Cup," which attracts thousands of spectators each year. This sport is also the story of many clubs that are the pride of the villages, not to mention the great champions who have reached the summits of the most prestigious competitions. The conference will retrace the development of this sport from the 1930s to today, in order to understand the reasons, limitations, and challenges of this sport, which is now closely linked to the identity of the department.
