Let's take to the streets this May! The Théâtres de Gascogne are offering a season finale with a promenade performance in the streets of Mont-de-Marsan. Two shows with artistic and political themes resonate with public spaces and the world we inhabit. Missed the Pride march? The Jeanine Machine collective is here for a chance to catch up in the streets of Mont-de-Marsan. In the heart of the public space, a man recounts the struggles that shaped the history of 20th-century gay culture and contribute to today's queer culture. He travels through time to bring back to life the pioneers of the social uprisings that built the movement. Through a march, reminiscent of Pride, he invites the public to a performance that is part collective quest, part documentary, and part demonstration. Exploring these struggles is a way to reclaim them, to understand their origins in order to better understand where we are. The aim is to identify and make visible the various minorities involved in these struggles for freedom, and to try to imagine together how these battles might converge. And since these struggles primarily begin in the streets, that's where the performance must take place. The Jeanine Machine collective was born out of a sense of urgency: the need to create performances in public spaces that address current issues; the urgency to take risks by bringing sensitive topics into the streets; the urgency to write performances that blend the personal and the political; the desire to stir things up in the streets, to allow moments of reflection and poetry to emerge from the urban tumult; the desire for engaged writing that grapples with reality. Jeanine Machine wants to write incisive, unsettling, and impactful performances because we believe that's what the world needs.
