The Marsan and Armagnac greenway

The old railway line linking Gabarret to Mont-de-Marsan, via Cazaubon-Barbotan in the Gers, has been converted into a Greenway, offering lovers of walking and hiking or cycling a discovery area linking the Marsan and Armagnac.

The practice of these leisure activities can be developed in complete safety: the road is closed to motorized traffic.

The exploration of the riches of the natural and cultural heritage of Marsan and Armagnac, from the Voie Verte which serves as a structuring axis, is guided by the tale of Lucien, a young Gabardan from the beginning of the 20th century who takes the train in Gabarret to join the Victor Duruy high school in Mont-de-Marsan.

Along the way, sketches engraved on signs retrace the history of the places and customs of the regions crossed. Jérôme Chibrac the writer, Sylvie Bernadet the watercolourist and Jeanne-Marie Fritz the historian imagined this story based on local testimonies.

Leave the center of Mont-de-Marsan to reach Villeneuve-de-Marsan, by a shaded and pleasant route of 16km.

GR Santiago de Compostela

The territory of Marsan has the particularity of being crossed, by the way of Saint Jacques de Compostela via the way of Vezelay by which the pilgrims flowed in the Middle Ages and in the XVIIIth century.

Nowadays the route is experiencing a revival of activity and it is not uncommon to come across these long-distance travelers on the Marsan paths. Pilgrim friends, take the opportunity to make a restful stopover on our territory (list of accommodation and pilgrim lodges).

Go to the Mont de Marsan Agglo Tourist Office to have your credential stamped or to buy it.

The sites of the Urban Natural Park

Our territory has 5 Urban Natural Parks offering a diversity of landscapes and natural environments, while preserving the architectural and historical heritage of the sites.
